The German Alpine Club is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year. When it was founded in Vienna in 1869, the association focused mainly on Austrian territory. Today it is one of the world’s largest mountain sports clubs as well as an important sports and nature conservation association with around 1.3 million members. Mountain sports such as hiking, mountaineering, climbing, touring skiing or mountain biking are supported, but especially the safety of the athletes and the associated professional advice. In the mountains, the DAV is a major contributor to the infrastructure of huts, climbing facilities and paths and, as a nature conservation organisation, is actively committed to the preservation of alpine habitats. In order to effectively support and communicate the extensive activities of the association, Thomas Bucher, head of the DAV public relations department, and his team chose PressFile.
ERP-CRM replacedAs head of the department, Bucher organizes the holistic press work of the German Alpine Club. His tasks include setting up explicit mailinglists, maintaining contacts, answering various enquiries, as well as sending individual press releases or organising press conferences. In addition to the core tasks of PR, “we also supervise social media as well as parts of the DAV website, as well as about 120 publications a year – from the annual report to brochures to the individual press release,” he describes his field of activity. “Before we discovered PressFile for the PR organization, we used ‘Navision’ – a Microsoft ERP system. However, the software was or is simply not built for the purposes of press work, and so our core tasks in PR were extremely cumbersome, such as distribution maintenance.
